Detailed Physical Examinations

All of our patients are taken through the paces of a thorough physical examination as injuries of the skeleton often require a high degree of investigation.  No rushed exams here, as we work with you to piece together the clues to your injury story.

Fracture Management

We provide acute and follow-up care for non-complicated fractures.  This is often done in close coordination with Orthopedic Surgery specialists, saving you extra visits around town!

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Many injuries lend themselves to further examination with ultrasound, an advanced imaging technique we employ as soon as your very first visit with us.  We use ultrasound to take a look “under the skin” to gather a thorough understanding of your problem.  With the luxury of being able to compare to the opposite side, watching the structures move live and in real-time, and high-resolution technology, this capability greatly enhances your overall examination.

Injections

There are innumerable injuries in which their recovery is enhanced or even facilitated by the addition of an injection.  Examples of locations that often lend themselves well to injections include:

  • Joint
  • Tendon
  • Ligament
  • Muscle
  • Nerve
  • Bursa

Injections are done for either diagnostic, therapeutic, or combined reasons and can be grouped into two categories:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Goal of reducing pain and inflammation, can be curative or temporary depending on the condition.  Examples include: Corticosteroid (Cortisone)
  • Regenerative: Goal of activating and concentrating your body’s own healing mechanism to address the injury on its own, hopefully for a permanent resolution.  Examples include: Prolotherapy, Autologous Blood, Platelet Rich Plasma

The addition of musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance, when indicated, enhances precision and patient experience.

Acupuncture

Although steeped in the 3,000-year-old tradition of Chinese Medicine, Medical Acupuncture has only recently surged in both acceptance and popularity in westernized cultures, partly because of growing understanding and medical literature to support its use.  Due to success in our own patients, we are fans!  Using very thin needles placed in precise locations to influence the internal body systems, this very low-risk treatment can often yield massively large improvement in a patient’s injury or illness.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)

There are two types of recognized physicians in the US, osteopaths (DO) and allopaths (MD).  OMT, sometimes also called “Osteopathic Manual Medicine,” is a technique in which DOs (and MDs trained in OMT) use their hands to diagnose and treat abnormalities.  One example is the use of OMT to perform spinal adjustments manually.

Concussion Management

In addition to injuries to the skeleton, there are a variety of medical conditions that are well suited for treatment in our facility.  One perfect example is concussion- currently a very high profile condition across the spectrum of sports.  We offer dedicated concussion diagnosis and treatment services in line with the current best medical literature and standard of care.  This involves partnering with other health care providers and sports team administrators to become a leader on this front.  Our Sports Medicine physician is a Credentialed ImPACT® Consultant, considered the gold standard program for concussion management.  Concussion patients need immediate care and frequent follow-up.  We are here to provide that concierge service to you!
