Board certified in both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine, Dr. Martin is an Osteopathic Physician specializing in a treatment approach that is not often found outside of professional sports: The complement of medical care and measures to improve human performance.  Whether you are a weekend warrior, professional athlete, or not participating in physical activity at all, Dr. Martin has developed an innovative synergy between your healthcare and measures to improve how you live and perform.  This is the direct result of similar coordinated efforts he has both observed and developed in other settings throughout his career.

Having completed medical school in 2007 at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he concentrated on both Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Martin then went on to complete an Internship and Residency at the renowned Eglin Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency Program.  During this time, while completing an unprecedented amount of research projects, his lifelong passion for medical science was emboldened by this quest to answer medical unknowns.  He was then selected to continue straight to Fellowship training in Sports Medicine, a rarity in Air Force medicine.  He tackled training in Sports Medicine in Washington DC, where he had the opportunity to treat athletes at all levels with The Naval Academy, Georgetown University, The DC Divas Professional Football Team, and the famed Nirschl Orthopaedic Center for Sports Medicine and Joint Reconstruction in Arlington, Virginia.

Upon completion of Fellowship, he then returned to his own Family Medicine Residency Program, where he served as Faculty for 4 years.  During this time, in addition to teaching the full scope of Family Medicine, he stood up the Air Force’s first Sports Medicine and Rehabilitative Therapy (S.M.A.R.T Clinic)- with physicians and physical therapists seeing patients alongside one another, this model is now considered the gold standard in Air Force sports medicine clinics.  From there, Dr. Martin, assumed a new position at the Office of the Surgeon General for Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).  In that role, he served as the first ever Sports Medicine Physician in AFSOC, pioneering the delivery of this specialty globally to extremely highly trained special operations troops.  This included the design and implementation of a course for providers from varying backgrounds on the delivery of state of the art as well as advanced Sports Medicine care.  He also served as a subject matter expert on Human Performance, participating in numerous research endeavors to optimize how special operations members perform.   This role was then broadened to include providing similar expertise to the Surgeon General’s Office at the joint Special Operations Command Headquarters in Tampa, FL.

Throughout his career, he has been blessed with various opportunities to provide medical expertise and care across a large spectrum of events and athletes, including the incredible population of Wounded Warrior athletes at numerous Warrior Games and the international Invictus Games.  He also completed an internship at the USOC Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, and has traveled internationally in support of olympic athletes.   It was during his travels deploying to the Middle East as well as establishing clinics for underserved populations in South America, that Dr. Martin began making concerted observations on the immensely variable range of health resources available to patients.  He became philosophically invested in ideas on how to bring together resources to promote health in coordinated and complementary efforts, leading to the formation of Transcend Performance & Lifestyle Institute.

Dr. Martin’s primary focus is on the delivery of a broad range of Sports Medicine capabilities, with a focus on advanced and innovative treatment strategies.  As a lifelong athlete himself, including sidelining injuries to himself, he is passionately driven to focus on one of your top priorities- Your injury.
